In the midst of Dengue/ Haze, another environment/ green news on spring cleaning (NEA vs TC) surprisingly became the bigger burning issue. The breaking news were hotly debated/ covered on Parliament/ MSM/ New Media, including notably a light hearted touch/ humor on the internet (and my Twitter reply).

@ChenShowMao Many Stories, One Singapore – Great Power with Come Together/ Clean Together/ …/ Fine Together
On so-called integrity, the on-going big huha of spring cleaning is indeed hilarious. For the common people, the closure is to keep it short and simple. NEA should just fine WP TC for the performance lapse (just like fined PAP TC on mosquito breeding, imposed penalties on recycling company for performance lapse). For goodwill, WP TC should offset part of business loss (as claimed) in future spring cleaning of hawker centre.
With National Day coming soon, residents saw again the (raised) up and (knocked) down and (supported) up of few colourful flags (including our National Flag) at neighbourhood area (in Sengkang).

Apart from the on-going/ strong KPIs of BAA/ FFL/ WPA/ CMI/ MIA/ MIB, the month of June 2013 also saw new record highs for recurring/ long-lasting environment/ green news. Dengue (from unattended mosquito breeding) climbed passed 10,000 cases (include 3-4 reported death), thus mozzie wipe-out frenzy. Haze (from illegal forest burning) shooted up above hazardous 400 points (include 1 reported death elsewhere), leading to face-mask wipe-out frenzy. Hailstorm (from cold wind/ crystalline rain) dropped ice cubes and caused damages (tree uprooted/ traffic disrupted), soon after water bombing/ cloud seeding.
Besides doing the 10-minute 5-step mozzie wipe-out (from NEA) at home, beware of getting mosquito bites when outside (especially around dark/ park area) to avoid contracting dengue fever. In case of mosquito bites, do not scratch them and rub some ointment (such as Tiger Balm) to relieve the itch. If you need, use less of smelly toxic-based (or bad side effect) mosquito repellent, and think more of safer natural-option (or good own mix) mosquito repellent (but not overuse till invite bee/ butterfly) instead.
Besides looking at PSI (from NEA) level, my simple gut feel is to just looking out the window, plus keeping in mind the worst PSI as gauge for the day. In case of unhealthy condition (above 100 points), try to stay indoor (if possible) and drink enough water (or cooling/ herbal tea) to flush out toxic from the body. If you can, backup some essential food items at home, and buy few boxes of real face mask (standby for emergency use).
On a real prolong crisis (like SARS-like diseases), whatever current supply of N95 masks will not be able to meet the sudden surge in public demand. The normal people (less at risk) should understand and take care of the more vulnerable group of people at these difficult times. If you must (preferably now than later), buy few boxes of real face mask, so that history does not repeat itself?

Zero Many More
First published on WordPress, August 14, 2012
Making rounds on the ground. After spending thousands of dollars, the not-so-old smooth tiles (at ground floor) have been replaced/ resurfaced with slightly rough-surface tiles (but beware of sticky/ oily ground).
When the dust settles down, the junk mails land visibly around the letter box area, indifferent to the nature of the ground. The trashes and bins follow suit to occupy the dumping ground, from early hour till night-time.
After much talk on Hope/ Heart/ Home (NDR on 26 August), the ground shows otherwise a stronger desire/ push for even more of Zero Challenge/ Productivity. The foreign ‘fallen’ leaves still not enough around the same area (and no shredding/ composting).

Two-liners on Junk Mail Every line counts (clearing around the letter box area) for the junk mails. Downright junk around letter box area (with quantity > meets the eye).
Two-liners on Dumping Ground Every day counts (moving from common area to bulk/ rubbish area) for the trashes and bins. The trashes and bins are at it again (dumping ground</> gracious living).
Two-liners on Dead Leaves Every month counts (wasting money on landscape upkeep), missionimpossible at the same area. Surely but slowly, clearing away the dead leaves from the same area (except zero productivity + no shredding/ composting).

The Best of Mr/ Ms Bin
First published on WordPress, May 22, 2012
With many characters (among Mr/ Ms Bin/ Trash/ Junk/ Fruit/ Food/ Leave/ Branch/ Umbrella/ …) emerging, the star of the month goes to Mr/ Ms Bin.
The amusing characters have been acting fierce and fearless (of cctvs), trying very hard to steal the limelight through ways and means. Unfortunately, these characters are in fact timid and thoughtless, failing to see the true light at the end of the tunnel.
With the monotonous replay every now and then, these harassments have become part and parcel of life in Sengkang!

More Recycling Sabotage
First published on WordPress, April 19, 2012
Getting through the tough times by overcoming all sort of ugly forces. The unrepentant waves of same continue, without a blink of the eye.
On a thunderstorm morning (on April 2, 2012), the recycling bin (placed at open area) was found lying along the roadside. The first thing that came to my mind was to help the recycling bin to get up on its feet again. However, I was stopped and put off the idea by the sudden violent angry storm of rain/ thunder/ lightning/ wind.
Besides the dull rubbish/ leaves, I had again removed colourful stuff like yellow security vest and purple big balloon. I had also called NPP line regarding the suspicious security vest discarded in the recycling bin. Again, I called NPP line regarding another offensive/ sabotage attack (with dead leaves) on the recycling bin (on April 25, 2012).
On few other occasions, the recycling bin was seen lying along the roadside (on August 3, 2012/ October 9, 2013).

Red Bamboo on Green
First published on WordPress, March 22, 2012
With exposure to sunlight, the red bamboos stand out most prominently among the other colorful canes of green/ yellow/ brown/ black. Though I still prefer green over red, the red bamboos are believed to be able to drive away evil spirit/ wrong doing, and to bring forth good luck/ change of heart.
After the landscape upkeep (catchy patchy outcome of the mystery puzzle after more than 20 days), it will take some time to see lesser fallen branches/ leaves around strategic locations (such as drain/ road) in Sengkang.

Break time to recuperate from relapse of old injury during NS time. While I was recovering from old injury, the recycling bin also suffered severe degree of attacks (by those who detest recycling to the core). The sabotaged items include packed food/ drink, pile of rubbish, cigarette butt/ box, rotten fruits, dead leaves, and so on.
From March 2011 to March 2012, junk to junk, same to same. Would the leading monkeys continue to enjoy the up-to-no-good business, or turn over a new leaf to do straight-through clean job?

Blocking Greenery and Clogging Drain
First published on WordPress, November 29, 2011
Every day, many people from many HDB blocks will pass by a common footpath to cross over to the opposite food court, supermarket, or on our way to the Sengkang MRT station.
Most of us most likely have seen dead leaves clogging some drains along the footpath. Apart from dead leaves, there are also some shy and small green plants hiding inside one of the drains. During heavy rain, some footpath area will be obstructed by flooded rain water. We will have to make slight diversion away from the footpath to avoid the flooded area.
NEA has taken up the clogging drain as potential mosquito breeding case, but there is no reply from TC and few clogging drains can still be seen along the footpath.
