Open Letter to Singaporeans

First published on WordPress, August 14, 2013
Dear Singaporeans,

During National Day, the have/ have-not of flying our Singapore Flag outside our own home often degenerate into a no-brainer topic/ argument nowadays – thanks to big campaign/ show-off many years back. The neighbourhood areas are in fact amply decorated with celebration banners, colourful flags and our National Flag – the feeling for independence day is more or less still the same (especially with passionate school-going kids around).

If you do not wish to specially find (or buy) and hang a big tailor-made National Flag outside, you can simply make (or reuse) and fly a small hand-made National Flag at home (or even put up the digital image of our National Flag online). As usual, you can also watch the live telecast of the National Day Parade (and fireworks display) at home.

Do away with the make-up gesture over hanging your own Singapore Flag outside! Keep our red hearts open for the true Singapore Spirit!

Best wishes to all!

One Free WordPress Year

First published on WordPress, November 15, 2012
It has been one free WordPress year since I created my first blog (on 11-11-2011) to share my hands-on experience on green matters. I started by picking a free green theme and customized the look with my green subdomain, green gravatar and green background colour. My first post was published on the following Tuesday (on 15-11-2011).

With limitations of free WordPress in mind, I have improved the look further by customizing the sidebar with Green Talks/ Humors/ Green Picks/ Comments. I have published 60 over posts (average 1 post per week) under 5 green categories, namely Greening HDB/ Greening HomeGreening Office/ Greening School/ Greening Web. Till date, the storage space that I have used so far (including images) is still at the zero percent level (or 0.002%).

My ultimate goal is to focus on writing original content that are simple and different, and sharing my hands-on straight from the heartI have written stuff from one-liner, two-liners, ridiculous, humor to creativity (both visually and literally). I hope my web friends would be able to overcome the difficult time in real life, and to take the challenge/ insult to do more correct things in return with humor.

The main letdown of free WordPress is that bloggers cannot track real page hits on our own, and have to take it very easy on the half-baked site/ country stats. My blog has few followers/ likes, some (including fake link) referrers and many (Akismet recognized spam) comments. The contents here are also shared by other social media sites, such as FeedReader and NewsAlloy. However, kindly refrain from misusing/ abusing any content/ information on this blog, such as Broken Controllers (2013-03-21/ 2013-01-08).

Also, sincere thanks to WordPress for the great encouragement and below Anniversary Award!

   Happy Anniversary with WordPress.com!
You registered on WordPress.com 1 years ago!
Thanks for flying with us. Keep up the good blogging!

Before I end this post, let’s take another look at the high-class WordPress message to make the days ahead (back again 2013-02-07/ 2013-01-18/ 2013-01-15).

Congratulations, you win the prize! The chance to take our 5 second survey  : )

Last but not least, I will if you will – make international web friends and make exceptional web news!

Green Tuesday

First published on WordPress, September 4, 2012
Every Green Tuesday, some students are reminded to do their green duty by bringing newspapers to the school recycling corner (in Sengkang). These newspapers will be sold (and recycled) and contributed to School Pocket Money Fund for needy students. For my family, our main source of supply comes from the free publications of TODAY/ my paper (daily news) and HEADHUNT/ The Property Guru (bi-weekly copy, but not printed on recycled paper).

After getting precious updates from the zero dollar sources, I will keep these recyclable aside for the green purpose. When the stockpile runs low, I have to cast the net wider to look for other source of supply, such as asking a small favour from relatives. I have also volunteered to do some spring cleaning on pile of newspaper on the office desk upon kind approval.

As the season for making red heart is approaching, look out for Fold A Heart on TODAY (or e-Heart on internet). For every Heart folded, SingTel will donate S$1 to SingTel Touching Lives Fund. Make a small difference by putting the origami hearts inside a reused envelope and dropping it into nearby post box (or few easy clicks on internet).

Remember to make every worth out of the free publications by supporting the green road to charity.
