Today is Singapore National Day! As the country celebrates SG50 big occasion with huge spending, the people are reminded again-and-again of our past achievements and forever-promising today-and-future.
For my not-so-promising past-times (or social work/ service on the web since 2010), I have shared my sincere/ serious thoughts and hands-on experiences with many like-minded bloggers (such as Catherine Lim, Feed Me to the Fish, Lucky Tan, Singaporean Cabby) and sites (such as TR, TOC, TODAY).

Dear Singaporeans,
During National Day, the have/ have-not of flying our Singapore Flag outside our own home often degenerate into a no-brainer topic/ argument nowadays – thanks to big campaign/ show-off many years back. The neighbourhood areas are in fact amply decorated with celebration banners, colourful flags and our National Flag – the feeling for independence day is more or less still the same (especially with passionate school-going kids around).
If you do not wish to specially find (or buy) and hang a big tailor-made National Flag outside, you can simply make (or reuse) and fly a small hand-made National Flag at home (or even put up the digital image of our National Flag online). As usual, you can also watch the live telecast of the National Day Parade (and fireworks display) at home.
Do away with the make-up gesture over hanging your own Singapore Flag outside! Keep our red hearts open for the true Singapore Spirit!

In the midst of Dengue/ Haze, another environment/ green news on spring cleaning (NEA vs TC) surprisingly became the bigger burning issue. The breaking news were hotly debated/ covered on Parliament/ MSM/ New Media, including notably a light hearted touch/ humor on the internet (and my Twitter reply).

On so-called integrity, the on-going big huha of spring cleaning is indeed hilarious. For the common people, the closure is to keep it short and simple. NEA should just fine WP TC for the performance lapse (just like fined PAP TC on mosquito breeding, imposed penalties on recycling company for performance lapse). For goodwill, WP TC should offset part of business loss (as claimed) in future spring cleaning of hawker centre.
With National Day coming soon, residents saw again the (raised) up and (knocked) down and (supported) up of few colourful flags (including our National Flag) at neighbourhood area (in Sengkang).

Singapore National Day is celebrated every year on 9 August (independence on 1965). During this period, the neighbourhood will be decorated with Singapore National Flag and other colourful flags.
Since the beginning of July, few flags (including our National Flag) have been persistently knocked down (even with wooden pole broken into pieces) and dumped on the ground. Some citizens here will pick up and look for a pillar nearby to lend our National Symbol a shoulder to lean on. I have also put on extra green support (green plastic bag tied around the base) for our National Flag.
When the sky gets darker, a particular decoration will be overshadowed by surrounding tall trees, blocking the moonlight/ starlight and street lights. In contrast, another decoration (at a road junction further down the road) becomes excessively bright, making glaring difference with moonlight/ starlight/ street lights/ 3 spot lights and additional colourful party lights hanging around.
The climax of National Day is the fireworks display at National Day Parade. I could still vividly remember the last NDP I attended few years ago. My first and unforgettable fireworks display was at the Marina South open field area many years back. With excessive fireworks display on other occasions and even at neighbourhood area (mostly block by high-rise HDB), the fireworks display has become nothing special to many people nowadays.
Best wishes to all on our National Day. Count on (not just me) every passionate Singaporean to bring back the green Lion City with true Singapore Spirit.
