TOC 21 Nov 2016: Here is how you opt-out from SingPost’s spam mails to your house
Before PDPC Year 2014, SingPost can use opt-out as a lame excuse to profit from junk mail at the expenses of household. After PDPC, we cannot depend on SingPost to collect our personal data to continue (non-core) junk mail business due to conflict of interest.
After (2-3 years) PDPC, the postal company (and alike) are still abusing/ misusing household data to proliferate junk mail business, even though I have put up my NO JUNK MAIL signs inside my own letter box in order to unclutter my (postal) mailbox.
Since the notorious advertisers do not respect and have any regard of the International Code of Conduct (NO JUNK MAIL sign), PDPC must include postal company (and alike) in national DNC to stop PDP Misuse/ Abuse, by providing another Do Not Mail option on letter (or junk mail) for sustainability of our country.
Redbean 18 Sep 2016: Zika – Invite the mosquitoes for tea
Common (unresolved) problems in HDB (that cause stagnant water) for mosquito breeding: (1) Personal hygiene (2) Old bamboo stick design (3) Old air-con tray design (4) Excessive planting (5) Unattended aquarium (6) Impractical landscape ...
Hardworking n common sense to mosquito breeding: (1) Keep house uncluttered (for clean n green) (2) Encourage indoor drying (minus dripping nuisance) (3) Simple mechanism to flip air-con water (noisy at night) (4) Limit to 3 plants outside (similar to cat ownership) (5) Keep water clean regularly (for good chi) (6) Remove obstructing landscape (for safety n emergency) ...
Phillip Ang/ TOC 23 Jun 2016: Stat boards and agencies should file police reports on rampant vandalism
For illegal unlicensed advertiser, the way how authority/ police draw the line depends on whether the content is minor nuisance/ major offence (1) authority - unlicensed advertiser/ junk mail/ spam (2) police - illegal credit/ betting/ scam.
Until we see a true progressive Singapore, the authority will then do a proper enforcement by putting higher penalty/ fine on illegal/ irresponsible advertiser (for maintenance/ hassle) and by failing/ degrading the corporate governance of the relevant company/ stat board/ gov (for sustainability/ csr).
Redbean 5 Jun 2016: Do not despise the dogs, they were expensive dogs
Recent crimes/ news on animal cruelty show that out-of-control cat abuse is bigger #1 problem compared to dog abuse. The cycle continues in Singapore: Domestic Pet > Animal Abandon/ Abuse > Stray Animal > Animal Hoarding > Unhygienic Public > Animal Cruelty > (Hopefully) Socially Responsible > Animal Adoption.
Redbean 31 Jan 2016: The philosphy of Goodlife Makan
Go Green (both eating n reducing waste). Residents can be 'rewarded' with Green token cash (and food voucher) by practicing RRR at Green designated centre (and makan place).
Redbean 24 Jan 2016: The number of Singaporean Ah Qs growing
Bad (link to ungentlemanly) Bully 阿Q正传. Public transport (for not-long-not-short daily work commute)/ (Leisure) cycling (for short personal errand) is a (cheaper manageable) transportation mode over (Luxury) car (for long show off).
Mr Brown 12 Jan 2016: Low Crime Doesn't Mean No Signs
Missing of (unserialized) Flower Pots/ Shoes/ ... are no joking matter, especially later turn out to be cases of high rise littering.
TOC 29 Dec 2015: Man arrested and to be charged for serial cat abuses at Yishun
Problem more than just animal cruelty, Yishun is going the wrong direction as the #1 black zone for promoting cat abuse, among dumping (or abandon) irresponsibly/ feeding (or hoarding) unorderly, leading to potential disease/ physical torture.
TOC 14 Dec 2015: Youths demands action, not empty promises in COP21 to address climate change issues
From empty promises to broken law, selfish company(ies) here still misue/ abuse/ trespass the so-so law to monster its grandfather business(es).
Redbean 2 Dec 2015: Paris COP21 on climate change – changing the world we lived
For climate change, the long-overdue law (wait-long-long from big brother) translates to short-break promise (hope-small-small from everyone).
Here Singapore does not even believe in Corporate Governance/ Personal Data Protection/ International Code of Conduct/ Corporate Social Responsibility.
Solar power is common and suitable for high-rise roof-top during sunny days. Technically, his brother wind power is another feasible and penetrable for small-size cool-trend during windy days.
TOC 26 Sep 2015: Sg Gov’t gets tough with errant companies responsible for haze
A long overdue insincere call from concerned authority/ environmentalist/ ... by justifying monetary/ business losses (over priority on health).
The kind of local/ international leadership that all can only see in trying to stop illegal activities and enforce proper handling (for show only).
TOC 4 Jan 2015: When town council says “cat removal”, it means “cat culling”
Feeding of Stray Cats (Animals) <=> Hoarding of Abandoned Cats (Animals)
Unattended Food for Stray Animals => Potential Disease/ Whatever Shit
Be Kind to Community Animals = Proper Shelter/ Home for Abandoned Animals
Redbean 9 Apr 2014: The authentic versus the fake
Nice Green Talk. Just take this artificial stuff as Art/ Design. No way to compare to the natural beauty of Blossom Flower/ Green Plant.
Gintai 29 Mar 2014: Who is the biggest mosquito breeder in Singapore?
Great ancient jungle wisdom! Another century humorous truth!
With mystery happening in Singapore everyday everywhere, the real culprit causing the stagnant water will be hard to pinpoint/ narrow down as a whole.
Maybe you could think of those safe natural option (or good own mix) mosquito repellent for your house (and suspected source) to fight dengue painlessly.
Wordpress 11 Sep 2013: Making a Whole Lot of Noise: Snoop Dogg and Snoop Lion
In the online world, you can make whatever noise you want on the web, and share the music to the masses in a fully responsible/ professional way!
In the real world (especially densely populated places), it is still better to practice/ listen to loud music (such as drum) before it is too late!
Mr Brown 21 Jun 2013: the mrbrown show: Kim Huat tackles the haze
Not for Joke ① – Saw people queuing to put order for real mask at many places (for emergency use) in Singapore, even don’t know when next stock come?
Not for Joke ② – Ask your kind friends who are coming back from overseas to buy few boxes of real mask (standby for kid/ elderly/ ...).
Not for Joke ③ – Take care of yourself and beloved ones ...
Mr Brown 20 Jun 2013: Haze is Top Scorer!
To avoid this funny/ repeated/ unhealthy situation (me not genius), the way to go is to stop the big bang approach of silly/ destructive/ illegal forest burning (local people suffer most).
Can concerned authority/ environmentalist/ ... enforce proper forest handling by using divide and conquer approach (in strategic phases), such that bad people cannot use evil trick again?
Philolitics 26 Mar 2013: Singapore: “Clean and Green City” is a Fallacy
The harder it is to achieve a sustainable, clean and green Singapore, the more you should use your creativity and hands greening whatever common space available ...
Hopefully, the big brothers (including other world leaders) will take step to work on ISO 26000 and take time to implement CSR/ Sustainability.
Mr Brown 23 Oct 2012: Fast food gantries
Think Green, and take it easy with these innovative gantries ads that target crowds.
At least still far better than those pointless junk mails (regularly from McDonald and the like) that get dump away immediately around letter box areas/ rubbish bins.
Living Investment 16 Oct 2012: Can we keep our public areas clean?
Not so simple and straight forward as it seems, especially without the big brother heart towards a sustainable, clean and green environment in Singapore.
Feed Me To The Fish 10 Oct 2012: Amy Cheong is not Lee Kuan Yew
The whole short episode shows that the lady simply fails common sense ($50 for wedding rental/ planner/ food/ …?)/ anger control (so many #@^*…?)/ internet ethic (public bashing on facebook?), and supposedly small degree of racism (Chinese on Malay? more like look down on people?). The insults are uncalled for, and the harmful actions (virtual or physical) will remain unerasable.
The organisers normally prefer hard court (a distant away from HDB block) to void deck. The harmless noise from void deck can sometimes become quite extreme, like excessively loud/ long ramping of bike (‘horse’ ride for Malay wedding) and excessively late/ long mahjong session (stay late for Chinese funeral).
TR 29 Mar 2010: Netizen’s queries to AGC and Singapore Police on “Water Festival” organized by Bukit Batok GROs “arrowed” to PUB
When will government/ PA member stop wasting unnecessary money/ resource on individual/ so-called PR/ foreigner event, where Singapore at large are not particularly interested at.
Instead of blowing up whole event as national issue, PA should organize water festival in national park, and make water bombs from natural sea water – like way many companies organize fun carnival for their employees.
Town council/ PA member should take this good opportunity as a fund-raising exercise from PR/ foreigner to organize other such event for PR/ foreign event in future, and start to think harder when want to spend away tax payer money.
TR 26 Mar 2010:
TR 24 Feb 2010: HDB 2008
TR 19 Feb 2010: 8 in 10 HDB flat “owners” find their 99-year leasehold flats “value for money”
This past projection (good feeling from uneven sampling/ skew result/ micro view) can safely hold for new HDB occupied by Singaporeans, but weak claim for old/ matured HDB with complicated mix of PR/ foreigner.
Litter/ urine/ spitting/ smoke/ cigarette butt on lift/ button/ lobby (pity cleaner often have to clear up mess).
Endless junked mail outside front gate/ around letter box area (mostly from out of box thinking agent to rent/ sell HDB unit).
Flower pot/ laundry along common corridor (no balcony in small house, plus air-cond latch area co-occupy by pigeon).
Bicycle locked on stair case railing (got stolen even if bicycle properly park at ground floor).
These are just some common sight for most Singaporeans staying in public housing, being part and parcel of HDB living, but nothing much to boast about in term of value for money.
